The Awesome Atoms
As many of the BCS Racing team are in Yr12 or Yr13, most of the team will be leaving in the next 2 years. This is inconvenient for us as it will limit Barry Comprehensive School's participation in the F1 in Schools Challenge. So the team felt it would be a good idea to pass on our expertise and experience to breed the future of BCS Racing. We specifically targeted Year 7 students as they will have 5 more years left to compete. We eventually gained a lot of interest and mentored a select group ready for the South Wales Regionals and hopefully they will prove that we can teach them some decent skills!
The Awesome Atoms, mentored by members of the BCS Racing team, were formed as the 'BCS Bloodhound' team in 2014. Mentored by numerous members of BCS Racing, they entered their first F1 in Schools competition with enthusiasm and drive. This eventually proved to be successful, as they took home the prize of '1st in Class' and 'Best Engineered Bloodhound Car'. Their confidence grew even higher with a trip to the Nationals proving to be a vital experience for the team. Achieving a PB on the track and placing 8th in the UK, the team (now with a new snazzy name) hope to take the championships by storm, as they move up to the Rookie Class. We wish them all the best!
The team consists of:
- Reuben Hopkin (Year 8)
- Jack Ollier (Year 8)
- Dylan Davies (Year 8)
- Thomas Froud (Year 8)
